Roger Federer through to Italian Open semi-finals

World number two Roger Federer eases past Tomas Berdych to book his place in the semi-finals of the Italian Open.

Roger Federer has recorded a straight-sets victory over Tomas Berdych to progress through to the semi-finals of the Italian Open.

The world number two, who has never won this tournament in his 17-year career, eased to a 6-3 6-3 win over his Czech opponent.

After the two players shared the opening four games, it was Berdych who recorded the first break of serve, but Federer stormed back with two of his own to move closer to victory.

Berdych held his own at the start of the second, but Federer broke serve in the seventh game before striking again in the ninth to wrap up a comfortable win.
