Roger Federer through to third round at Indian Wells

Roger Federer eases past Paul-Henri Mathieu in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

Roger Federer has booked his place in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open with a straight-sets victory over Paul-Henri Mathieu.

The 32-year-old Swiss got the better of his opponent 6-2 7-6(5) at Indian Wells, converting on three break point opportunities and firing nine aces in the process.

It is the seventh time that the world number eight has defeated the French qualifier since they first met 11 years ago and extended his 2014 record to 15 wins from 17 competitive matches.

Federer will take on Dmitry Tursunov in the third round.
