Milos Raonic eases into third round of French Open

Milos Raonic cruises into the third round of the French Open courtesy of a straight-sets victory over Adrian Mannarino.

Milos Raonic has booked his place in the third round of the French Open courtesy of a straight-sets victory over Adrian Mannarino this evening.

The Canadian took just over one-and-a-half hours to win 6-1 7-6(0) 6-1 and set up a meeting with Andrej Martin in the next stage at Roland Garros.

Raonic made short work of his French opponent in the opener, with Mannarino winning his first service game to love but then dropping the next two as the eighth seed cruised to a 6-1 victory.

The second set was not as straightforward for the favourite, with neither player even able to earn a break point as the set went with serve.

The resulting tie-break was a one-sided affair, though, with Raonic winning all three points against serve in addition to holding his own to win it 7-0.

That dominance on serve continued in the third set too as Raonic went through the whole match without giving up a break point, while Mannarino struggled to keep hold of his own serve.

Raonic broke twice to race into a 5-0 lead in the final set and, although the unseeded Frenchman stopped the rot by finally winning a service game of his own, it was merely a matter of delaying the inevitable and Raonic soon wrapped up the victory.
