David Goffin gets the better of Santiago Giraldo in Paris

David Goffin proves too strong for Santiago Giraldo at the French Open by claiming victory in four sets.

David Goffin has defeated Santiago Giraldo 6-3 4-6 7-5 6-2 at Roland Garros to book a place in round three of the French Open.

The world number 18 made few mistakes in the opening set, holding his serve throughout to wrap things up in a straightforward manner, but he was made to work hard in the second as his opponent levelled up.

A break in the fourth and 10th games saw Giraldo keep his campaign on track but, despite a slight scare for Goffin early on in the next set, the Belgian managed to keep his cool and take an important lead overall.

Goffin got the job done in an efficient manner in the final set, too, holding once again to race ahead after a mammoth fourth game which swung both ways.

John Isner or Jeremy Chardy awaits in the next round.
