David Ferrer eases through at French Open

David Ferrer eases into round two of the French Open with a 6-4 6-3 6-1 victory over Dutchman Igor Sijsling.

David Ferrer has eased into the second round of the French Open with a straight-sets victory over Dutchman Igor Sijsling.

The Spanish fifth seed, who lost last year's final to Rafael Nadal, was rarely troubled during the opening two sets as he took them 6-4 6-3.

Ferrer then turned the screw in the third as Sijsling tired, breaking twice before serving it out 6-1 to seal his progress.

The win has seen the 32-year-old extend his head-to-head record against Sijsling to 4-0.

The world number five will now face either Simone Bolelli or Andrea Arnaboldi, who are both from Italy.
