Jerzy Janowicz claims 'improved fitness' was behind five-set victory

Jersy Janowicz says that he is much fitter after beating 17th seed Gael Monfils in five sets.

Jerzy Janowicz has said that an improvement in fitness was the reason behind his five-set win over Gael Monfils in the Australian Open.

The Pole came from two sets to one down to beat the 17th seed, and he eventually progressed to the third round with a 6-4 1-6 6-7 6-3 6-3 victory.

He told reporters: "I have improved my fitness. Now, even if I'm angry I am fighting for every single ball. I don't give up. As you can see I lost the third-set tie-break but I was still fighting.

"I played against a really tough opponent but deep down I knew I could win this match."

Janowicz will play Feliciano Lopez in the next round.
