Azerbaijan's Aykhan Taghizade has clinched the gold medal in the men's -68kg taekwondo at the European Games.

The 19-year-old sealed his place in the final of the event by defeating the Russian Federation's Alexey Denisenko in the semi-finals to set up the clash with Poland's Karol Robak.

Taghizade started the match well, although the 17-year-old fought back in the third round to set up a golden point, but Taghizade had enough to secure the gold in front of his home crowd.

Robak won the silver for his exploits in the event, while Denisenko and Spain's Joel Gonzalez Bonilla claimed the bronze medals.

The gold medal win is Azerbaijan's 11th of the Games.
