Azerbaijan's Isaev aiming for Olympics

Azerbaijan's Radik Isaev has said that he will "keep training hard" to make the Rio Olympics after winning gold at the European Games in Baku.

The 25-year-old won gold in the final event of the taekwondo programme, the men's +80kg competition, beating Vladislav Larin of Russia in the final.

Isaev told reporters: "Now I have 40 qualification points for the Rio Olympics so this is a kind of a trampoline for me for the Olympics. I will keep training hard and getting ready for those games.

"I've never competed in such a big competition as this. After this I am going back home to my wife and children and my mother. But I am going to keep my feet on the ground. Sometimes I am a bit of a joker but today I kept a cool head."

Isaev's gold was the host nation's 13th of the Games, leaving them second in the table.
