Li wins gold in table tennis final

Li Xiaoxia has seen off Ding Ning in the final of the women's table tennis tournament to claim gold for China in a 4-1 victory.

Li started off better than her compatriot, who struggled to take control of the table, while Li maintained her serve to set up an impressive 11-8 win in the opening game.

Li was pushed to the limit in the second game as Ding came back to equal the scoreline 11-11 but Li managed to edge it 14-13 to double her overall lead.

Ding fought back in the third game and was able to hold her serve and claim an 11-8 win, taking the overall scoreline to 2-1 in Li's advantage.

Despite a brief comeback, Ding failed to keep up the momentum as she stumbled to an 11-6 and 11-4 defeat to lose the gold medal.
