Caeleb Dressel claims his third gold of the Olympic Games with a world-record victory in the men's 100m butterfly.

US superstar Caeleb Dressel has claimed his third gold medal of the Tokyo Olympics with a world-record victory in the men's 100m butterfly.

The 24-year-old had already beaten Michael Phelps's 10-year-old record over the distance in 2019 and shaved another 0.05 seconds off the time today, finishing in 49.45 seconds.

Dressel's rival, Kristof Milak of Hungary, swam a stunning second half to go sub-50 for the first time and record an impressive 49.68 seconds, a new European record.

Swiss swimmer Noe Ponti took the bronze, finishing 1.29 seconds behind Dressel with a time of 50.74 seconds.

For Dressel, meanwhile, he now has five Olympic golds to his name from just two Games, with the possibility of two more medals to come over the next 24 hours.
