Katinka Hosszu pulls out of 100m backstroke despite sealing career-best time

Hungary's Katinka Hosszu has withdrawn from the 100m backstroke event at the World Championships in Kazan, despite clocking a career-best time of 58.78 seconds in the heats.

The 26-year-old, who has three world gold medals to her name, topped the overall timesheet after beating her personal best of 59.36s.

However, after completing the race, Hosszu told reporters that her main focus is the 200m individual medley, which has prompted her to withdraw from tonight's backstroke semi-finals.

Lauren Quigley and Elizabeth Simmonds will compete for Great Britain in the semis this evening.
