China furious at Ye Shiwen drug rumours

China swimming chief Xu Qi believes the Ye Shiwen drug rumours show a lack of respect for Chinese swimming.

China's swimming boss Xu Qi has hit out further at reports, largely from the US media, that swimming sensation Ye Shiwen is taking performance-enhancing drugs.

The swimmer herself and the British Olympic Association have refuted the claims and Qi has said that the reports show a lack of respect for Chinese swimming.

"Ye Shiwen has been seen as a genius since she was young, and her performance vindicates that," he told the state news agency Xinhua.

"If there are suspicions, then please lay them out using facts and data. Don't use your own suspicions to knock down others. This shows lack of respect for athletes and for Chinese swimming."

Ye won her second gold medal earlier today in the 200m individual medley.
