Australia's Mitch Larkin: 'USA will want revenge after my 200m backstroke win'

Australia's Mitch Larkin expects the USA to be seeking "revenge" next year after he ended their winning streak in the 200m backstroke final at the World Championships.

Australia's Mitch Larkin has insisted that the USA will be out for "revenge" at the Rio 2016 Olympics after he snatched gold in the 200m backstroke final at the World Championships in Kazan.

Before the 22-year-old's victory, America had taken the title in eight consecutive Championships.

"It's fantastic," Larkin told Eurosport. "I've been training really well for it. I came here tonight to have fun and see what happened.

"I saw the Campbell girls come first and third and I wanted to keep up with them, and I did that. [The USA will] be coming back for revenge next year, I'm looking forward to it."

Australia have 10 medals so far in the meet.
