Magnussen makes 100m freestyle final

James Magnussen stormed through to the final of the men's 100m freestyle at London 2012 this evening.

The speedy Australian was explosive in his heat, finishing in 47.63s, almost a clear second ahead of world record holder Cesar Cielo.

Nathan Adrian of the US was the second-swiftest qualifier behind Magnussen, finishing in 47.97s to push Cuba's Hanser Garcia into third overall.

Yannick Agnel, another pre-race favourite, narrowly made the last eight with a time of 48.23s, ranking him one place above the slowest qualifier Nikita Lobintsev of Russia.
