Ian Thorpe: 'Australia have bounced back in the pool'

Ian Thorpe believes that Australia's swimming campaign at the Commonwealth Games will be deemed a success following their poor performance at the Olympics.

Ian Thorpe believes that Australia have improved their performance in the swimming since the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Team Australia won 19 gold medals at the Tollcross Swimming Centre, which is the same number they won in Delhi four years ago.

However, Thorpe believes that will be deemed a success following their poor display in the pool in the 2012 Olympics.

Thorpe told BBC Sport: "The 19 gold medals for Australia is the same total as Delhi, but it will get a different reaction back home than four years ago.

"That was seen as a disappointment, but this will be seen as a success because of how poor Australia did at London 2012."

Australia won just one gold medal in the pool at London 2012.
