Barker: 'Matthew was too good'

Team England's defeated squash semi-finalist Peter Barker has admitted that his opponent and compatriot Nick Matthew was just too good in their match on Sunday afternoon.

Barker was also quick to praise his opponent for managing to recover so quickly from knee surgery to qualify for a Commonwealth Games final.

"I wasn't good enough and he was too good, he didn't let me play how I wanted to play and I needed that second game really," he told reporters. "I needed that to go in at 1-1 and put more work into him but he played very well.

"I attacked a little bit more in the second game, had a few more attacking opportunities, but it didn't go my way.

"Credit to him because he's just had surgery five weeks ago and he is playing at a level of quality like that so fair play."

The final takes place on Monday.
