Saracens maintain 100 per cent record with win over Wasps

Jamie George and Nick Isiekwe scored tries for the Premiership leaders.

Saracens claimed their 15th straight Premiership win to move top of the table with a 29-6 victory over Wasps at Allianz Park.

Meeting for the first time since their record-breaking Premiership semi-final in May, which Sarries won 57-33, the home side once again came out on top to maintain their 100 per cent record this season.

Both defences remained resolute for the best part of an hour until Sarries stretched their legs, courtesy of tries from Jamie George and Nick Isiekwe.

Alex Lozowski also kicked five penalties, while Elliot Daly scored two of his own for Wasps, in what proved to be their only points of the match.

Saracens, who were forced to make a last-minute change when Wales wing Liam Williams withdrew from the side, took the lead after 10 minutes as they made good use of a lineout and earned a penalty, converted by Lozowski.

Wasps fans were pleased to see Daly back in the team after the international break as he knocked over a monster penalty from 55 metres to level the scores.

The reigning champions dominated possession in the opening stages but it was Wasps who squandered the best chance of a first-half try when debutant Michele Campagnaro spilled the ball five metres from the line.

Lozowski made it 6-3 from the tee after Lima Sopoaga was penalised at the ruck and he then added another just before half-time to send Sarries in at the break with a six-point lead.

The home side piled on the pressure after the restart and looked to have the first try of the game when George went over but replays showed the hooker was held up.

Wasps won a penalty from the resulting scrum and Sopoaga kicked to halfway to give his side some breathing space.

Daly then cut Saracens' lead to three points with another long-range penalty but Sarries freshened up their forwards as the game approached the hour mark and immediately won another penalty from the scrum, scored by Lozowski.

It took a while but with an hour on the clock George did score as he found himself in space out wide to dive over. Lozowski added another two from the touchline conversion to make it 19-6.

Wasps refused to go down without a fight and continued to use number eight Nathan Hughes as a battering ram but to no avail, as Lozowski added his fifth penalty of the game to extend Sarries' lead.

And a defensive error by Daly proved to be the killer blow for Wasps as his pass was intercepted by Isiekwe who ran the ball in unchallenged.

Lozowski scored the resulting conversion to take his points tally to 19, successfully nailing all seven kicks in the match.
