The sides were well matched in the opening minutes, but a 17th-minute yellow card for Joe Marler for killing the ball allowed the home side to open up a lead, sending Schalk Brits over for the try.

Saracens increased their lead near the start of the second period, as Owen Farrell kicked the ball forward to set up Will Fraser for the side's second try of the match.

The home team took a 15-point advantage heading into the final 10 minutes, but were reduced to 14 men when Chris Ashton was sent to the sin bin.

However, the visitors were unable to reduce their opponents' advantage, as they recorded their second consecutive loss in the league.

The win leaves Saracens five points clear at the top of the table, while Harlequins remain third.
