Catalin Fercu pulls out of Rugby World Cup

Catalin Fercu pulls out of RWC

Romania’s Rugby World Cup preparations have been thrown into chaos after a fear of flying led winger Catalin Fercu to withdraw from the tournament.

Fercu, who played at the 2007 World Cup, refused to embark on the 40-hour journey to New Zealand.

Adrian Apostol has been called in to replace the 51-times capped player.

"After many discussions with Catalin, he told us he cannot pass the fear of flying so many hours," said Romanian Rugby Federation head Alin Petrache.

"We tried to convince him but we didn't succeed. We are very disappointed about Fercu's decision."

Romania kick off their World Cup campaign against Scotland on Saturday, September 10.
