Jamie Roberts pleased to put "nightmare" contract deliberations behind him

Jamie Roberts is simply focused on helping current side Racing Metro achieve their targets, following a "nightmare" spell in his career.

Wales centre Jamie Roberts has described his recent protracted negotiation talks at Racing Metro as a "nightmare" scenario.

The 28-year-old joined the French outfit on a three-year deal, but an agreement was reached to part ways early due to his international exploits next term.

Roberts eventually decided to commit his future to Harlequins, which he admits was an extremely tough choice to make.

"It has probably been the most difficult decision of my career," he told The Telegraph. "It has been a nightmare actually. I was mulling over it during the Six Nations and that was difficult because you can't let that affect your game.

"Getting everything sorted in my life will allow me to focus 100% on the present. You find that your love for tackling, passing a rugby ball and hitting rucks increases because that's all you have to worry about.

"Having everything mapped out means I can concentrate on the here and now, which is helping Racing Metro to the Top 14 title and working as hard as I can to make the Wales squad for the summer."

Roberts was also recently accepted to study for a Masters degree in medical science at Cambridge University, alongside his playing career.
