Oyonnax win but miss out on bonus point

Oyonnax just fall short of the bonus-point win with a 20-3 victory over Challenge Cup Pool Five rivals Zebre.

Oyonnax Rugby rounded off their European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool Five appearance with a comfortable 20-3 victory over Zebre at the Stade Charles Mathonbut, but their failure to secure a bonus point will end their slim hopes of making the quarter-finals.

Regis Lespinas kicked Oyonnax into an early 3-0 lead with a penalty from underneath the posts with seven minutes on the clock.

Fabien Cibray teed up Guillaume Bousses for the first try of the game in the 37th minute, which was converted by Lespinas to put the French side 10-0 up at the break.

Zebre put their first points on the board two minutes after the restart when Luciano Orquera's penalty flew between the posts, but Valentin Ursache extended Oyonnax's lead with a try on the hour mark.

Pedrie Wannenburg went over on 70 minutes to set up an exciting finish as Oyonnax went in pursuit of the bonus point.

However, despite heavy pressure from Christophe Urios's side, Zebre held firm and to all but end their opponents qualification hopes.
