Jim Mallinder confident over Tom Wood injury

Jim Mallinder says that Tom Wood is likely to be fit within the next "week or two" having missed Northampton Saints' clash against Bath Rugby on the weekend.

Northampton Saints coach Jim Mallinder is hopeful that Tom Wood will be fit in time for England's Autumn Internationals.

The 27-year-old flanker, who missed the Saints' 31-24 victory over Bath Rugby on the weekend, was considered a doubt for his national side's upcoming fixtures.

Mallinder has eased worries, though, telling BBC Sport: "He's improved this week. He trained on Wednesday and then again on Friday and had a reaction from it.

"I'm hoping it's not too bad. He could have played if we had put pressure on him, but it wasn't the right thing to do. Hopefully he will be all right in the next week or two."

Courtney Lawes and Alex Corbisiero are also currently nursing injuries.
