Result: Newcastle 26-27 Leicester Tigers

A weakened Leicester Tigers have won an enthralling clash with Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park.

A late Steve Mafi try handed the Tigers a 27-26 win and extended Newcastle's worst ever run in the Premiership to ten games.

There had been nothing between the two sides at half-time as they went in level at 11-11.

The first half saw a try from Greg Goosen and two Jimmy Gopperth penalties for Newcastle cancelled out by a Leicester try from Ed Slater and two penalties from Billy Twelvetrees.

Newcastle had seemingly opened up a significant advantage early in the second half through a converted Tim Swinson try as they went 18-11 ahead.

Leicester weren't to be outdone though as they replied with a try from Australian flanker Julian Salvi, and Billy Twelvetrees held his nerve with the boot to edge Leicester 22-21 ahead.

The topsy-turvy nature of the game continued when Luke Fielden was adjudged to have got enough downward pressure on the ball over the try line to give Newcastle a 26-22 lead.

However, Mafi's late effort ensured that Tigers went home with the spoils, while Newcastle remain at the foot of the Aviva Premiership table.
