London Welsh promoted to Premiership after appeal upheld

London Welsh have had their promotion to the Aviva Premiership confirmed, after they had initially been denied entry to the top flight for failing to meet league regulations.

It was initially decided by an independent audit that London Welsh had not met the minimum standards required to achieve promotion, despite winning the Championship title.

However, after London Welsh submitted plans to use Oxford United's Kassam Stadium to stage their home games, it has been decided that they can take their place in the Premiership.

The decision has also resulted in the relegation of bottom-placed Newcastle Falcons to the Championship.

It is unclear as of yet whether Newcastle will appeal the decision.
