Winless London Welsh thumped by Gloucester Rugby

Gloucester started the better of both outfits and cruised into a 12-0 lead inside the opening half-hour.

Henry Purdy and Charlie Sharples touched down two tries in as many minutes for the visitors, with James Hook adding the extras from Sharples's try.

Welsh threw themselves a lifeline five minutes before the interval when Ben Pienaar crossed over, before Olly Barkley added the conversion and a penalty before the break to reduce the gap to two points.

However, Laurie Fisher's side kept their cool and penalties from captain Billy Twelvetrees and Greig Laidlaw helped open up an eight-point gap.

Second-half replacement Mark Atkinson then touched down twice within three minutes to effectively end the contest, before Jonny May and a late penalty try wrapped up a convincing win.
