Phillips agrees new London Welsh deal

London Welsh head coach Rowland Phillips has agreed a new deal with the club.

The club will play Championship rugby next season as they are currently rooted to the bottom of the Aviva Premiership table, having taken just one point in 20 games.

Phillips initially joined the club as defence coach in November last year, but was named head coach in March.

London Welsh director of rugby Steve Lewis told the club's official website: "In his short time as head coach of London Welsh we have seen a massive upturn in performances on the pitch and there is a renewed energy about the squad.

"Rowland is a vastly experienced coach and as a former London Welsh player he understands the club, and as a club we have no doubt that Rowland is the right man to lead London Welsh back to the Aviva Premiership."

Phillips added: "I'm excited about the challenge of guiding the club back to the Aviva Premiership and we have already begun planning for next season."

London Welsh's last result was a 38-17 defeat to Leicester Tigers last weekend.
