Leicester Tigers subdue Bath in low-scoring affair

Leicester Tigers produce an impressive defensive display to subdue Bath as Owen Williams kicks them to a 17-8 Aviva Premiership victory at Welford Road.

An impressive defensive display and the boot of Owen Williams helped Leicester Tigers record a 17-8 Avivia Premiership win over Bath this afternoon.

The Tigers prevented their opponents from registering a try until the 79th minute, by which point Williams had already put them out of sight at Welford Road.

George Ford kicked the visitors ahead in the fourth minute, but it was not until the penultimate minute that Bath added to their score.

Leicester, who were thrashed 45-0 by Bath in the reverse fixture, responded well as Williams converted penalties either side of a 16th-minute Tom Youngs try to give the host an 11-3 advantage at half time.

Two more penalties from the Welsh fly-half extended Leicester's lead, and the Tigers then gave the division's best defence a taste of their own medicine to take their 14-point cushion to the closing stages.

Ross Batty crossed the line for Bath as timed ticked away, but it was too little, too late, as the second-placed side were condemned to a third defeat of the season by a Tigers outfit who climb to fifth in the table.
