Nick Wood apologies for Gloucester dismissal

Nick Wood says sorry to his Gloucester teammates for being sent off inside the opening 75 seconds of their defeat to Saracens on Sunday.

Gloucester Rugby head coach Nigel Davies has revealed that prop Nick Wood has apologised to his teammates for being sent off after just 73 seconds against Saracens on Sunday.

The 30-year-old was shown the second-fastest red card in the history of the Aviva Premiership for stamping on the head of Jacques Burger during their 44-12 loss at Allianz Park.

"Nick's apologised for what happened and has been big enough to do that. He's a good guy and will come back stronger," Davies told reporters. "Everybody makes mistakes. It's very difficult for Nick. He's in bits in the changing room.

"I saw it on the big screen like everybody else and it didn't look great. Nick is not a dirty player and never has been. He's a good technician and a good rugby player.

"We'll look at the video and take it from there. The red card, as it was seen by the referee, was fair."

Gloucester are currently bottom of the Premiership table after two games.
