Dave Attwood out, Billy Vunipola doubtful for Fiji clash

Dave Attwood is sent back to club side Bath after picking up an injury that will keep him out of the Test clash with Fiji, while Billy Vunipola could also miss out.

England could be without number eight Billy Vunipola for Saturday's Test match against Fiji, while Dave Attwood has also been ruled out.

Vunipola picked up an injury during the Red Rose's opening Autumn International fixture last weekend - a 37-21 victory over South Africa at Twickenham.

The 24-year-old will not train for the next two days, meaning that he is a major doubt to feature against Fiji in what is a repeat of last year's opening Rugby World Cup fixture at the same venue.

Second row Attwood misses out after receiving an injection for a troublesome knee, meanwhile, which has seen him return to club side Bath for further treatment.

Forward coach Steve Borthwick is unfazed by the mounting injury concerns, however, telling reporters: "We've got a few bumps and bruises from Saturday.

"We'd like all our players fit, but, whenever there's an injury, it creates an opportunity and some players are grabbing those opportunities with both hands.

"In the build up to last Saturday's game, the players who weren't in the matchday squad put pressure on those first-choice players to help the preparation. To have the guys pushing themselves like that is really important."

England have won all 10 games since head coach Eddie Jones took charge 12 months ago.
