British and Irish Lions wing George North will be fit to face Australia on Saturday.

British and Irish Lions assistant coach Rob Howley has revealed that George North will be fit to face Australia on Saturday.

North had been a doubt for the first Test match with the Wallabies after picking up a hamstring injury during the 64-0 win over the Combined County last week, but Howley has insisted that the Welshman will be fit for Saturday's fixture.

Howley told reporters: "He was up bright and early for our fitness test, and I have never seen him in better shape.

"He will be available for the weekend, and it's a huge morale booster to have someone like George North fit for us."

The 21-year-old is expected to be selected in Warren Gatland's starting lineup for the match in Brisbane.
