Rob Kearney admits that the British and Irish Lions were well below par during Tuesday's 14-12 defeat to the Brumbies.

Rob Kearney has admitted that the British and Irish Lions were not good enough during Tuesday's defeat to the Brumbies.

The Lions were beaten for the first time on their tour of Australia as they went down 14-12 in Canberra.

"We lacked a large amount of control in the first half. That is when it got away from us," Kearney told BBC Sport.

"To be honest, we weren't working as hard as the opposition and that is what cost us in the first 40 minutes.

"You have to give everything in a Lions shirt and in the first half we didn't do that."

The Lions will now turn their attention to Saturday's first Test against Australia in Brisbane.
