Warren Gatland says that yesterday's match against Queensland was just what the British and Irish Lions needed before their Test series against the Wallabies.

British and Irish Lions head coach Warren Gatland has said that he is looking forward to Tuesday's tour match against a combined team from New South Wales and Queensland.

Three wins from their first three matches on the tour of Australia have Gatland pleased, but the New Zealander said that he expects tougher tests before their first match against the Wallabies.

"Yesterday's game [against Queensland Reds] was exactly what we wanted," Gatland told Sky Sports News.

"We would like a couple more lead-in games, and for the first two games to be a bit tougher than they were, but that's what happens on tour - you are not dealing with tough teams all the time - so we will have to see what Tuesday is like.

"The Waratahs (next Saturday's opponents) are missing a lot of players as well, so how tough are they going to be? The Brumbies are different - they will be tough before that first Test."

The first Test takes place in Queensland on June 22.
