Bet365 Grand National analysis (Saturday, 4 pm)

The confirmed 34-runner field is out today. I Am Maximus heads the market at 7/1, with Grangeclare West at 9/1 and Jagwar at 10/1 just behind. Panic Attack (12/1), Iroko (12/1) and Johnnywho (14/1) make up the next group.

Bet365‘s own data gives a useful steer on where the money is going. I Am Maximus accounts for 8% of all bets placed with them so far, the most of any runner, followed by Panic Attack (7%), Johnnywho (6%), Grangeclare West (6%) and Iroko (5%). It’s rare for a horse to top both the market and the volume of bets, so the weight of money behind the favourite is notable.

I Am Maximus won the race in 2024 and was second last year, carrying top weight. Paul Townend is confirmed in the saddle, which is a significant booking. He goes off 168 in the weights, so it would be a serious performance to win from that mark, but he’s already shown he handles this course and trip better than most.

Panic Attack is the one that’s caught the eye of Dan Skelton’s yard all season, and she’s already earned over a quarter of a million in prize money this campaign. The Skelton stable has a strong record in handicaps at the big festivals and she’s well regarded.

Johnnywho’s Cheltenham Ultima win came on his first run back from a wind operation. Bounce-back form on a comeback is easy to dismiss but harder to ignore when the performance was that clean. He gets in off a workable weight and the step up in trip to 4m2½f shouldn’t be an issue.

The 6-place each-way terms are the practical takeaway. In a 34-runner race over 30 fences, attrition is inevitable. Backing something at 16/1 or 20/1 each-way with six places paid gives you a real return even if your pick runs into trouble and finishes fifth or sixth.

Bet365 Grand National offers for existing customers

Bet365 has four promotions running specifically for the National.

  • The Super Boost goes live at 9 am on Saturday. An enhanced price on a selected Grand National runner. Worth checking the app first thing before placing any ante-post bets.
  • The 25% Winnings Boost is available on the National itself. Opt in, back your selection, and if it wins, you get a 25% boost on top of your returns. T&Cs apply.
  • Position Payout pays out based on where your horse finishes. The higher the finish, the bigger the return. Available on the Grand National.
  • Finally, the 6 Horses Challenge is a free-to-play game that runs daily throughout the festival. Pick the winners from six selected races and you’re in with a chance. No stake required.

All four are accessible through the Promotions tab on this top horse racing betting site. Given the depth of the field and the unpredictability of the race, the Super Boost and Winnings Boost are the two worth prioritising. Check Saturday morning before you commit to a price.
