Toilet bowl kills Brazilian football fan in Recife

A Brazilian football fan in Recife is killed by a blow from a toilet bowl thrown at him just 40 days before the start of the World Cup.

A Brazilian football fan was killed by a toilet bowl flung in his direction in the World Cup host city of Recife on Friday.

Clashes between fans of Santa Cruz and Parana erupted after Friday night's game in the North-Eastern Brazilian city, with some fans throwing whatever they could get their hands on.

Paulo Ricardo Gomes da Silva was named by police as the man fatally injured when a toilet bowl was chucked on him.

His mother, Joelma, is quoted telling local radio: "They killed my son and me too - I would not wish the pain I am suffering today on anybody."

Brazil 2014 starts in 39 days.
