Google references Sochi with rainbow-themed homepage, Olympic Charter

Google changes its homepage to reflect the ongoing Sochi Games with a quote from the Olympic Charter.

Google has changed its homepage to reflect the ongoing 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Google's Winter Olympics themed homepage to mark the opening of the Sochi Games on February 7, 2014.

The world's largest web search engine has used a rainbow-coloured theme with a quote that links to 'Principle 6' of the Olympic Charter in an apparently direct reference to Russia's controversial anti-gay laws.

The quote reads: "The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practising sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play."

The opening ceremony of the Sochi Games will take place on Friday.
