Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine to appeal conviction

Sheffield Wednesday announce that they have been told that Gary Madine will appeal his conviction at Leeds Crown Court for assault.

Gary Madine will appeal his recent conviction at Leeds Crown Court, his club Sheffield Wednesday have announced.

Madine was jailed for 18 months earlier this month after being found guilty of one charge of actual bodily harm and a charge of grievous bodily harm for punching two men in separate nightclub attacks last year.

Wednesday released a statement this morning that read: "Following consultation with the legal team of Gary Madine, Sheffield Wednesday have been made aware of their intention to lodge an appeal following the 23-year-old's recent trial at Leeds Crown Court.

"Until the conclusion of this or any other legal process, the club will make no further comment."

Madine had by far his most successful season with Wednesday when helping them get promoted to the Championship in 2011-12 before struggling to retain his place last season under Dave Jones.
