Jamie Carragher will face no police charges over the spitting incident that saw him suspended from his job as a Sky Sports analyst.

The Liverpool stalwart was caught on video spitting at a Manchester United fan's car after the driver taunted the pundit over the Reds' 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford last Saturday.

Carragher's spittle is believed to have hit the man's 14-year-old daughter, and since the footage came to light, the 40-year-old has apologised.

The family of the girl have urged Sky not to sack Carragher, though the analyst's initial suspension was extended until the end of the season by the broadcaster.

According to The Mirror, the former England defender was spoken to by officers from Greater Manchester Police.

The report claims that the force "agreed" a prosecution was not in the public interest, but that a crime of assault has been recorded over the incident, as per police policy.

In addition, the driver who filmed Carragher spitting at him will reportedly attend a driving improvement course.

Carragher did three televised interviews during the aftermath of the incident to apologise for his behaviour.
