Manchester United and Netherlands striker Robin van Persie has been hit by a kitesurfer while preparing for the World Cup in Brazil.

The 30-year-old and his teammate Daryl Janmaat were both hit while visiting Ipanema Beach, but the Dutch Football Association have insisted that no serious injuries were suffered.

The governing body told VI Orange that the two have "light scratches and headaches, but beyond that, there is nothing to worry about."

The Netherlands will open their World Cup campaign against reigning champions Spain on Friday, just one day after the tournament gets underway in Sao Paulo.

The nation's other Group B opponents are Chile and Australia.
