Rooney named second-richest sportsman

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been named the second-richest sportsman in Britain with an estimated fortune of £72m.

The England captain's wealth was laid out in the Sunday Times Rich List, but he could only finish second to Formula 1 ace Lewis Hamilton.

According to the publication, the British driver is worth around £88m after he reportedly received a £20m increase from last year following his world title triumph.

Hamilton's former McLaren teammate Jenson Button was named third in the rich list, while Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is the wealthiest football manager in Britain.

The Portuguese coach is said to be worth £40m, which is just £2m more than his rival - Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
