Gary Lineker escapes warning from BBC for expletive tweets

Lineker escapes action for expletive tweets

Gary Lineker has insisted that he has not received any warnings from the BBC after he sent a number of expletive tweets about Manchester United's shock defeat to his hometown club Leicester City.

The 53-year-old, who delivers an impartial viewpoint when hosting Match of the Day, was rumoured to have been reprimanded by BBC chiefs for swearing in his tweets about Leicester's surprise 5-3 victory at the King Power Stadium.

As the Foxes came from a 3-1 deficit to snatch all three points, Lineker wrote, "Bloody hell!", before posting, "Fucking hell!" and "Shat on Man United!".

According to the Daily Mail, the BBC has confirmed that no warnings were issued to Lineker about his conduct on the social network.

In response to the reports that he faced punishment, Lineker tweeted: "Dear papers, if I can't swear when Leicester come from 2 goals down to beat Man Utd 5-3 then I never can. Thanks though for your concern.

"It possibly amuses you to make stuff up, but the BBC has never expressed concern to me about any of my tweets.

"Anyway enough of that! I'm done swearing until Leicester beat Manchester...fucking...City."

The BBC are said to 'regularly remind' Lineker of his responsibilities on Twitter.
