Burglars 'try to break into Wayne Rooney's £6m mansion'

Burglars reportedly tried to break into Wayne Rooney's £6m Cheshire mansion while he played in his testimonial at Old Trafford.

A group of burglars reportedly attempted to break into the £6m Cheshire mansion of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney during his testimonial match on Wednesday night.

The England skipper was competing in the goalless draw with Everton at Old Trafford while his wife Coleen and their three sons Kai, Klay and Kit watched on.

After the masked thieves triggered the alarm system, a helicopter and three police cars arrived at the property within minutes, according to The Mirror.

It is believed that police dogs were also released in the garden in order to stop the burglars, who attempted to break in between 8.30pm and 8.45pm.

A Cheshire Police spokesman confirmed that an investigation is underway and they are appealing for witnesses.
