Dynamo Kiev, USSR midfielder Andrei Bal dies during football game

Former Dynamo Kiev and USSR midfielder Andrei Bal has died as a result of a blood clot at the age of 56 during a veteran teams' exhibition football match, it has been reported.

Bal, who played for Dynamo between 1981 and 1990, won four Soviet titles and four Soviet cups with the Ukrainian club.

He was capped 20 times, scoring one goal, for the Soviet Union national squad.

After hanging up his boots Bal coached Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv, as well as Ukrainian clubs Vorskla Poltava, Chernomorets Odessa and Dynamo Kiev.

He also served as an interim manager of Ukraine's national side in October, 2012.
