Dynamo Kiev captain Oleg Gusev was saved from swallowing his own tongue by an opposing player after he was knocked out during a Ukrainian match.

The 30-year-old fell unconscious when goalkeeper Denys Boyko accidentally smashed his knee into Gusev's face during a match against Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

To stop the skipper from choking on his tongue, Dnipro midfielder Jaba Kankava forced his hand inside Gusev's mouth to clear his airways.

Shortly after the medics arrived, Gusev recovered and was carried off the field on a stretcher.
