Ashley Cole 'responds to rumours that an England star is to come out as gay'

Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole reportedly responds to rumours that an England player is poised to come out as gay by saying that he is interested in "chicks only".

Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole has insisted that he is not gay following rumours that an England footballer is poised to come out.

It has been claimed that Twitter was bombarded with rumours that one of the players who featured in the Three Lions' 1-0 win over Denmark last week is ready to open up about his sexuality.

According to the Daily Star, rumours emerged claiming that the player in question is due to make the revelation in an interview this week, which prompted thousands of football fans to guess who it could be.

On Friday, Cole took to Twitter to say that he is "strictly chicks only", while reports have claimed that Southampton left-back Luke Shaw wrote "it's not me chill out guys!" before deleting his post.

Los Angeles Galaxy winger Robbie Rogers and former Premier League player Thomas Hitzlsperger have come out as gay in the last year.
