Sao Paulo's metro workers strike for fifth day ahead of World Cup opener

Sao Paulo metro workers go on strike for a fifth day ahead of the start of the World Cup, which gets underway on Thursday.

Metro workers in Sao Paulo have gone on strike for a fifth day ahead of Thursday's World Cup opener between hosts Brazil and Croatia.

A rally involving a number of social movements, including homeless workers, will take place today, and should be followed by another vote on the metro strike at 4pm.

According to ITV News, a statement from the metro workers' union said: "The union sent an official request to President Dilma Rousseff asking her to help the category reopen talks with the state government."

England will begin their tournament with a Group D clash against Italy on Saturday.
