Monchengladbach vow to help refugee crisis

Borussia Monchengladbach have announced that they will lend a hand in the refugee crisis by donating money.

The German outfit have followed Porto's lead and decided to give €1 (72 pence) of every match ticket sold for their Champions League opening group match against Manchester City.

The club's chairman Stephan Schippers said in a statement: "We will gladly follow this commendable initiative from Porto. As a part of the Champions League, the most important club competition in Europe, we should take on a leading role in the European community and show solidarity with the refugees."

The Bundesliga side are expected to donate around €46,000 (£33,328) as a result of their scheme.
