Australia beat England by single point

Australia make a shot in the last minute to secure a 49-48 win over England in the pool stage of the netball event at the Commonwealth Games.

Australia snatched a late 49-48 win over England in their netball match at the Commonwealth Games this morning.

England made a dominant start to the game, opening up a six-point lead by the end of the first quarter, but the Australians quickly pulled it back to reach half time just a point behind.

Neither team could take control of the encounter in the second half, resulting in the two sides heading into the final minute level at 48-48.

Goalshooter Joanne Harten tried to put England back in front, but missed the net to allow Caitlin Bassett to make a shot down the other end.

England tried a long-range pass in the final seconds to try to set up a last-gasp shot for the English side, but the ball went long to give Australia the victory.

The defeat is England's first of the pool stage, while Australia top Pool B with two wins so far.
