Ashley McKenzie: 'Commonwealth gold good preparation for World Championships'

McKenzie: 'Gold a good stepping stone'

Team England's Ashley McKenzie believes that his gold medal in the men's under-60kgs judo final will serve as the perfect preparation for the upcoming World Championships.

McKenzie beat Navjot Chana of India to take top prize earlier today.

"I've got the World Championships in a couple of weeks so this is obviously a good stepping stone," McKenzie told BBC Sport.

"Coming here and getting gold is amazing and with my roommate Colin Oates getting gold as well makes it extra special."

Oates claimed gold in the under-66kgs final with victory over Cyprus' Andreas Krassas.
