Wilson knew that he was guaranteed a medal with just one gymnast remaining after his score of 15.466 left him in second position.

However, he had the silver medal snatched from his grasp on the last routine as USA's Danell Leyva recorded a score of 15.500.

Leyva had earlier won silver in the parallel bars, and settled for second place on the podium once again.

Germany's Fabian Hambuchen claimed gold with a score of 15.766.
