Ellie Downie wins bronze in all-round final at European Championships

Fifteen-year-old Ellie Downie wins bronze in the all-round final at the European Championships in Montpellier.

Ellie Downie has become the first British woman to win an international all-round medal in her first senior year after winning bronze at the European Championships.

Downie finished behind Giulia Steingruber and Maria Kharenkova in Friday's final in Montpellier, but the teenager admitted that she had surprised herself by finishing on the podium.

The 15-year-old told BBC Sport: "I'm over the moon. I never thought coming here I'd be among the medals. I was hoping for a top six or eight finish. It's just absolutely amazing."

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Claudia Fragapane finished in sixth position.
